Norman Hat (Garter Rib Hat)

I used worsted yarn (Encore Tweed in Olive Green) and size 6 needle but I knit loosely so adjust according to your knitting.

Garter Rib Pattern:

row 1: K2, P2.

Row 2: Knit.

Alternate these 2 rounds.

1.) Cast on 80 (for average), 96 (large) or 64 for chunky (I tested with the 80 stitches). Join to knit in the round.

2.) k2, P2 ribbing for 2″. (I added a contrast border for 7 rounds/1″).

End on a purl row.

3.) switch to garter rib and knit in pattern until 5″ from cast on edge (or desired length).

Decreases:

Slip all stitches for SSK – KNITWISE

Place 4 stitch markers between stitch #’s 2, 22, 42 and 62 (or for large size 96 sts- between #2, 26, 50 and 74)

1.) K2, K2tog, K14, SSK.

2.) K2, P1, K2, P2 (etc.) P1.

3.) K2, K2tog, K12, SSK.

4.) K4, *P2, K2*, K4

5.) K2, K2tog, K10, SSK.

6.) K3, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, K1.

7.) K2, K2tog, K8, SSK.

8.) K3, P1, K2, P2, K2, P1, K1.

9.) K2, K2tog, K6, SSK.

10.) K2, K2tog, K1, P2, K1, SSK.

11.) K 32

12.) K2, K2tog, P2, SSK.

13.) K 24.

14.) K2, K2tog, SSK.

15.) K2tog.

16.) Draw yarn through remaining 8 stitches and weave in ends. Ouila!
